We were brought on board to develop a sleek teaser film for Xiaomi’s latest device. The goal was to highlight the phone’s form and features without diving deep the into technical specs.
We juxtaposed 2D and 3D elements to create a dynamic visual narrative that kept the focus on the device’s design.

We based our approach on the theme of “looking closer.”
This became the lens through which we sketched ideas, wrote notes, and shaped the first storyboard.
Our approach was to reveal each feature by pairing minimal 2D silhouettes with their 3D counterparts. This contrast created an exciting visual dialogue, the three lenses forming together, the speaker detailing emerging, the slim profile taking shape, tied together with match cuts.
Rather than treating the storyboard as a rigid blueprint, we approached it as a foundation. Throughout production, we experimented with camera movements, tested transitions, and explored how 2D and 3D treatments could bounce off of each other without feeling repetitive. This flexibility kept the process open and allowed the film to evolve into something that couldn't have been planned exactly on paper.
We began by extracting shapes directly from the device, rings, edges, curves, and used them as the backbone for our transitions. This kept the film visually honest to the product itself. The colour palette was also derived from the actual device, so every frame stayed grounded in the phone’s real design language. 2D brought clarity and 3D brought depth. Switching between the two created a controlled rhythm that became the driving force of the film. This contrast wasn’t just stylistic, it served a purpose. Showing isolated 2D shapes first and then cutting to their 3D counterparts allowed the hardware silhouttes to shine, highlighting each feature in an intentional way.
The frames below are a small selection of everything we explored for the project. Some of these also made it to the final video.

A little restraint goes a long way. Instead of only flashy reveals, the film holds back just enough to make you lean in.
